Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
MauveMD is a direct-pay practice and does not bill insurance. A superbill is provided for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Labs and medications are billed to your insurance separately.
Is this primary care or gynecology?
No. MauveMD provides consultative, midlife-focused care for hormonal therapy, non-hormonal therapy, metabolic health and long-term disease prevention. This does not replace your primary care doctor.
Do you prescribe bio-identical hormones?
Yes. I prescribe FDA-approved bio-identical estrogen, progesterone and testosterone when appropriate. Compounded hormones are used only when no FDA-approved option exists.
Do you see breast cancer survivors?
Yes. I provide oncology-informed, non-hormonal menopause care for women with a history of breast cancer and for those who are not candidates for systemic hormone therapy. Care is focused on symptom relief, sleep, mood, sexual health, and long-term bone and cardiovascular health, and can be coordinated with your oncology team when appropriate.
Can I start hormone therapy if I am still having periods?
Yes. Many patients begin treatment during perimenopause when symptoms are present and risk assessment is appropriate.
Are there any safe options for vaginal symptoms after breast cancer?
Yes. Many women can safely use non-systemic therapies for vaginal and urinary symptoms.
We review current safety data and your individual history to determine the most appropriate options for you.
Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications?
Yes. FDA-approved GLP-1 and other evidence-based medications may be prescribed as part of your comprehensive treatment plan. This is not a simple weight-loss program. The focus is metabolic health, body composition and long-term cardiometabolic health. Medication is only one component of the care.
Do you have regular office hours?
We are available by appointment only. All of our appointment timesa are available online.
Do you have telemedicine appointments?
YES! Currently, we can offer telemedicine appointments for menopause initial consults and follow-ups.
